    Canon Character Section:
    History:
    Howard Stark
In the comics Howard was the son of Howard Stark Senior who started Stark industries with his son. For the sake of the film this background is similar - save for the fact that Howard Stark Sr. and his wife produced a son with genius level intellect while his son was simply a golden age businessman. The MCU (and particularly the starks) are built on real world counterparts. Howard Stark Sr. represents John J Rockefeller.

Howard Stark Junior is Howard Hughes meets Walt Disney.

Howard's story in the MCU begins with a demonstration of Vibrantium, a new metal discovered by researchers in Africa. A cadre of HYDRA agents nearly assassinate him, leaving him to be saved by Colonel Phillips who invites him to join the SSR. From there his world becomes embroiled in secret dealings including but not limited to:

    The creation of Captain America.

The creation of SHIELD and being the architect of Operation Paperclip.

Arranging for Anton Vanko's deportation as well as copying the clean energy technology.

Creating the Element that would save his son's life.

By the time he is assassinated by the winter soldier he has begun to suspect that at least one of his creations, SHIELD - is broken and needs to be fixed. He is a billionare, genius, playboy philanthropist - in the 40s.

    Personality:

Howard's character was stated to be a caricature of Walt Disney in Iron Man 2. In Captain America: The First Avenger he mimicked in appearance and personality Howard Hughes and Charles Lindebergh.

Howard when we see him is slightly more subdued then Tony. He's put himself behind a cause which he does easily, perhaps a little easier then Tony (mostly because he grew up expecting that his father would be distant, that Howard Stark wouldn't really be involved at all.) He's focused pretty firmly on the war effort.

Beyond the war effort however he has some difficulty dealing with people but has learned enough social queues and etiquette that he can put up a facade of being very interested in women. Women make him flustered however (See the beginning of Captain America.) He's a born showman with a genius IQ but the quiet genius is more in tune with who he is as opposed to the loud man making sales. That's who he comes largely thanks to a growing feeling that everything he makes ends up dead or dying or creating death - something that's solidified as he realizes that SHIELD has been polluted.

At his canon point he's beginning the journey to being the parent that Tony Stark hates and that made him who he was. Prior to that however he really believed in everything that they did like most individuals in his generation. After Steve's loss he realizes that everything is not as simple as it is in a lab - seeing Peggy's pain as well as the reaction he feels personally responsible having helped make Steve what he was. He resolves to never do that again, but he does not really grieve. He's a product of his era in that he doesn't cope with his emotions well. Meeting Howard and the rest of the early SHIELD crew gave him an outlet for his feelings as well as people to talk to. Losing that hits him hard, and with no outlet he's started drinking.

Prior to that however he makes friends, is warm and engaging, and even funny. He recognizes that he doesn't relate well to people but learns to do so largely thanks to Peggy and Steve who take nothing from no one and make him a better person despite him - technically starting out as the person with the most power. He never originally planned to have children or make connections and suddenly finds himself making both which hits him incredibly hard.

He tends to mostly adopt a 1940s attitude towards things like women and people who are different, or at least he did prior to meeting Steve and Peggy. They are by far the most important people to him by the time he arrives and he's a little more understanding then he might have been previously. He could and can be a little harsh, but he'd never swear at people or abuse them (periodically). He only does that machinery.

He was raised in a rich household so he does things like open doors, dress for dinner and wear top hats. He's surprisingly down to earth in person, keeping to himself unless the situation calls for it. With his arrival in Teleios he's most likely going to be looking for a way off the island until something hits him that makes him realize he can't go until he gets everything fixed. And there's a lot to fix and a lot for him to face. He has to face up to the idea that he has feelings and emotions, that he is facing loss, (neither Stark copes with loss well)

    Powers/Abilities:
Intelligence: Howard is intelligent. While he states that he's "limited by the technology of his time" there's no specific comparison to Tony. For the sake of RPing - because Iron man, Tony is smarter then Howard, but it's by a narrow margin and specifically in different fields.

Pilot: Howard can fly anything typical to his time and is a very quick study. As in, chances are once it's explained to him he'll be able to fly it.

Languages: He speaks English, french, Latin, Spanish, Japanese and Korean.

    Prose Sample:

He had started drinking three days ago and he hadn't stopped.

Subtly. Just a little there and here, but every time he saw Peggy standing up straight he felt like a personal failure. It was wearing him down and he honestly had never expected to feel that sense of crushing failure every time he looked at the notes.

So he'd started drinking. Just to sleep better. Just to ease the tension in his chest.

I really didn't think it'd bother me this much. He'd really have to face it sooner or later. The greatest man to live in his century had slipped through his fingers and he'd let it happen. How could he call himself a man after that? How could he clal himself an American after letting Steve Rogers down?

Nausea turned in his stomach. Standing alone on the deck of the ship and listening to the breezes and the wind he fought back another rising wave of hopelessness?

    Fatigue?

    Horror?

He choked back a frustrated noise that in another life to another man would have been a sob and kicked at the railing in frustration You stupid son of a bitch! Why didn't you let me... Teach you how to fly a plane.

Was that the problem? He felt responsible? Steve Rogers was a grown man. But he was your friend. Prior to all of this friend had been...well. He'd resigned himself to never really connecting with people. The price of being brilliant, love them and leave them, women and men.

He made another angry frustrated noise and reached beneath his cashmere overcoat to pull out the flask. Silver, heavy, it had started to seem more like a friend then anyone else. Pouring a healthy dose down his throat he let himself swim and the urge to cry and be less then a human being.

A hand touched his shoulder. He looked back into Peggy, pale and bleary eyed with lack of sleep. She squeezed his shoulder as he passed her the flask.

She stared at it and shook her head. He took a long swig and the two of them watched the sky turn pink against the horizon.

"You're going to be all right." When they realized they'd said it together Howard began to laugh, standing up and wrapping her in a hug- unaware that he was weeping onto her shoulder even as he was comforting her while she was doing the same. Letting go of her she sighed, straightening and walking below decks.

He took another drink and continued to watch the sun rise occasionally drinking to replace his tears.

How has your character changed from their canon self? Not a lot, Howard is aware of some parts of the future.

Are they gaining any abilities from their time in game? Did the game setting take something from them?
    Nope!
